11 weeks and counting!

As for now, I am still feeling just fine. I am blessed because I haven’t had any sort of morning sickness. The worst symptom is that I have been tired, but I can deal with that. I am at the end of my eleventh week of pregnancy. We will continue to post information about the pregnancy and funny things that we have found along the way. We will keep you updated weekly.

Your pregnancy: 11 weeks

How your baby's growing:

Your baby, just over 1 1/2 inches long and about the size of a fig, is now almost fully formed. Her hands will soon open and close into fists, tiny tooth buds are beginning to appear under her gums, and some of her bones are beginning to harden.

She's already busy kicking and stretching, and her tiny movements are so effortless they look like water ballet. These movements will become more frequent as her body grows and becomes more developed and functional. You won't feel your baby's acrobatics for another month or two — nor will you notice the hiccupping that may be happening now that her diaphragm is forming.

See what your baby looks like this week.

Note: Every baby develops a little differently — even in the womb. Our information is designed to give you a general idea of your baby's development.

How your life's changing:

If you're like most women, you're feeling a bit more energetic now and your nausea may be starting to wane. Unfortunately, you may also be suffering from constipation (caused by hormonal changes, which can slow digestion) and heartburn (hormones again, relaxing the valve between your stomach and esophagus). Just remember, all this discomfort is for a good cause.

Don't worry if nausea has made it impossible for you to eat a wide variety of healthy foods or if you haven't put on much weight yet (most women gain just 2 to 5 pounds during the first trimester). Your appetite will likely return soon, and you'll start to gain about a pound a week.

1st Dr. appointment (We've Got ultrasounds)

On Tuesday, May 20th (a day after I got back from California) we had our first official doctor’s appointment. Sean took the day off so he could go with me. We got called back to the room and were given a big duffel bag of all kinds of goodies, ranging from magazines to books to samples. It was going to be a lot to read and learn. The doctor came in and asked A LOT of questions. It was great to hear how healthy I was. She did an exam and then brought in the ultrasound machine. This was what Sean and I had been waiting for. We wanted to make sure that there truly was a baby inside. It was the most amazing thing. We immediately spotted our little kumquat (that is what it resembles in week 10 of pregnancy) and were both amazed at what we saw. We could make out the head, arms, and legs. The baby was moving all over the place. The doctor said that everything looked great and she printed out a few pictures for us. We go back on Friday, June 13th and we will be able to hear the heartbeat.

Future Cowboy Fan "NOT"

The next line of business was how I was going to tell my family. I would be flying out to California for my sister’s wedding. I would get there on
Thursday, May 15th about 2:00 pm and thought it would be a good idea to tell them that day so I wouldn’t be taking anything away from my sister’s “special day”.

I found the cutest shirt online that read “Future Cowboys Fan” with an arrow pointing down to my belly. What better way to tell them than with a T-Shirt. After all my whole family are Dallas Cowboy Fans.

I landed in Sacramento, CA and got off the plane. I was rather nervous and could feel my hands getting clammy. I came down the escalator and saw my mom and dad waiting for me. They both gave me a hug. My mom took a step back and asked me what my shirt meant, “Does that mean you are pregnant?” she asked. I smiled and said “YES!” They were both so happy and I saw tears fill my mom’s eyes. My dad had a big smile on his face and gave me a great big hug. We headed to Modesto where my family lives so we could tell the rest of the family.

My sister got home from school and immediately noticed my shirt. She gave me a huge hug and shed a tear. She said that it was about time we had another baby in the family. That night we went out to dinner with my brother Louie, my sister in law Kristy and my niece Shelby and nephew Lucas. Not one of them noticed the shirt right away. It took a couple of minutes and I heard Kristy whisper to Shelby, “Read auntie Raquel’s shirt. Do you know what that means?” Shelby looked at my shirt and then at me and nodded that she didn’t know what it meant. We told her and she got the biggest smile on her face. Lucas just blushed and smiled. My brother, the joker he is, asked if I had borrowed the shirt from someone. “Ha! Ha!” I remarked.

Everyone so far seemed really excited about the news. The last people I was going to tell that night were my grandma Lupe and Uncle Albert. My uncle has been waiting for us to get pregnant. That is the first thing he asks me every time I talk to him. My mom and I went over to my grandma’s house after dinner to visit. We went in and sat down for a few minutes before my mom had to tell them to read my shirt. My uncle couldn’t believe the news. He was thrilled and my grandma was jumping up and down. I don’t think I have ever gotten so many hugs in one day.

Sound the trumpets, time to tell the Family

Sean and I decided that we needed to tell family first. We invited his Mom, Ron, sister Shannon, and brother in law Pat over for a BBQ at our house on Sunday, May 4th. It was kind of hard to find the “right time” to tell them, so right before we ate I just came out and told them that we were pregnant. They were all very excited and quickly started talking about names and what the sex of the baby is. Of course the men stated it was a boy and the women a girl.

Confirmation the 1st appointment

On Wednesday, April 23rd, I went to see my nurse practitioner to confirm the pregnancy. They did a test and sure enough they said I was pregnant and would be due on December 15th. By this time, I was already 6 weeks, 3 days. I was still in shock at the fact that I hadn’t had any sort of symptoms other than being more tired than usual

Kung Fu Baby

2 Lines, 2 Stories

RAQUEL:

It was 5:30 am on Monday, April 21st and that is when I decided to take another pregnancy test. It showed positive. I couldn’t believe it because three days prior to that I had taken one and it came out negative. I ran into the bedroom and told Sean the news. He lay there in disbelief. I think we were both in shock. All sorts of emotions ran through me: I was happy, scared, and nervous all at the same time. We decided that I would make an appointment to confirm this was true.

SEAN:

The day was April 21st and I had one of the most unusual wake up calls you could imagine. My wife was standing over me as I tried to wipe the night from my eyes, "Your never going to believe this," she said, huh I thought, "2 lines, there are 2 lines". It took me a moment to finally grasp what she was trying to tell me, after all it was only 5:30 in the morning. Heck it usually takes me my entire commute to Golden to finally wake up. We said very little that morning, not because we were unhappy or nervous but because I think we were both in a state of disbelief. So much so that she took another test 1 day later only confirming what we both already knew, she was pregnant. Awesome!!!! We are both so excited and looking forward to whatever the future may bring.
